The best preparation for a career in actuarial science is a university programme with deep mathematical content, broad business content, and a clear connection to employability. Swansea University strikes the perfect balance in the picturesque setting of our beachfront campus.
Choice of Programmes
The Swansea University BSc Actuarial Science programme aligns with the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA) professional exams. Students who graduate from our BSc Actuarial Science degree programme with good marks can earn exemption from IFoA exams CS1, CS2, CM1, CM2, CB1, and CB2. Students in our BSc Mathematics or BSc Mathematics for Finance programme can qualify for one to three IFoA exemptions while focusing more directly on mathematics and capping off with a career-boosting independent project. Our MSc programmes offer recent BSc graduates in mathematics or a related field the opportunity to add an actuarial specialty in a short amount of time.
Our mathematics offerings include a strong core of analysis and algebra along with plenty of statistics and applied modules in actuarial mathematics using industry-standard software tools such as R and Excel. Many of those modules are designed and taught by a qualified actuary in conjunction with our internationally recognised stochastic analysis group. One-fourth of the BSc Actuarial Science programme is taught by our top-flight School of Management, which hosts the Hawkes Centre for Empirical Finance. As such, students learn accounting, finance and economics from professionals with business experience in those fields.
