Mercer offers an eight-week internship (throughout July and August) aimed at giving you real exposure to what the life as a graduate is like.  We have opportunities within our Retirement business area.
To give you a snapshot of what our areas do:
  • Our Retirement Consulting team advises both corporate and trustee clients in all areas of pensions consulting including tackling and resolving issues associated with Defined Benefit and Defined Contribution (DC) pension schemes.
Whilst the individual tasks you will do during your internship will slightly vary depending on the business area you join, they will include:
  • Responding to client and colleague queries, both via phone and email in a non-technical jargon free manner
  • Performing numerical and qualitative analysis for various client situations
  • Working on multiple research projects often across different teams and with other interns
  • Drafting documents and presentations for clients
  • Assisting more experienced analysts and consultants prepare for client meetings and supporting management of actions
During your internship you will be assigned a buddy to help you with day-to-day work, answer queries and give you guidance. As an intern, all work you carry out will be done under supervision, but you will quickly develop your knowledge and skills and be given more direct responsibility as you progress.

Qualifications

To be successful during your internship you will need to be: 
  • Highly self-motivated, sales focussed and commercially aware
  • An outstanding communicator with strong interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Eager to learn and to keep up to date with the respective industry trends and market conditions
  • Interested in financial markets, pensions and investments
  • Numerically savvy with an analytical and problem solving approach
  • A strong team player and work well within a collaborative environment
  • Exceptional at building relationships and have a solid understanding of customer service principles
  • Able to work well under pressure and have strong time management skills
  • Attention to detail focussed ensuring quality and delivery in line with deadlines
The minimum academic requirements for this role are:
  • 300 UCAS points with a minimum A in Mathematics at A Levels
  • 2:1 honours degree expected or obtained in a numerate or semi-numerate degree discipline (equivalent qualifications are accepted)
