Job Purpose / Capsule:

Responsible for developing and delivering data / analytical / pricing solutions through effective day to day management of a team of analysts and optimally utilising the team.

This is to be achieved using industry leading techniques and best practice methods throughout the team. The role requires a hands on technical approach combined with making best use of and developing the team.

Typical Accountabilities:

  • Lead and manage the development of effective and efficient solutions which deliver business requirements and add demonstrable value
  • Ensure that all team members follow quality assurance processes and manage risk adhering to all relevant policies
  • Champion the use of best practice methods and standards and ensure all team members maintain these standards
  • Instill a culture of continuous improvement within the team
  • Recognised expert within the department on your team’s area of expertise

Plan, design and manage the development of analysis/pricing/data/implementation capability in the ability to:

  • Query large databases to extract and manipulate data that is fit for purpose
  • Develop and implement predictive models / segmentations using market leading methodologies
  • Continuously evaluate methodologies, understanding how they fit into the wider piece, and identify where they can be improved
  • Ensure that the adundant data sources available are fully utilised across the department and identify new opportunities
  • Perform detailed and insightful analysis to solve complex business problems and / or to gain a deep understanding of various business dynamics
  • Deliver regular management information on specific KPI’s relating to performance
  • Maintain and share a strong understanding of the wider insurance market
  • Liaise with a wide range of stakeholders to communicate strategy and outputs with technical and non-technical senior management
  • Represent the Analytics and Pricing Team on cross functional projects, proactively identifying how external projects impact or interact with A&P
  • Remain abreast of industry best practice
  • Coach and mentor a team of analysts in producing actionable and value adding solutions
  • Manage a team of analysts and invest in their development
  • Role model behaviours and contribute to wider analytic and customer community to maximise value from their insight
  • Assist Managers in making tactical and strategic decisions
  • Deputise for Analytics / Pricing Lead

Education, Qualification, Skills and Experience:

Essential:

  • A degree or equivalent in Mathematics, Statistics, Operational Research or a scientific discipline with strong mathematical/statistical content
  • Significant experience of insurance pricing
  • A track record of using statistical models and analysis in a creative way to solve business problems
  • Confidence in presenting technical and marketing information in a variety of mediums to clients and colleagues. The ability to communicate to senior management level is critical
  • A motivated team player who produces analysis that is actionable and delivers measurable improvements
  • Experience of managing and developing a team

Desirable:

  • An MSc./PhD in Mathematics, Statistics or Operational Research
  • Analysis and statistical model building e.g. logistic regression, CHAID, clustering, simulation, segmentation, optimisation
  • Use of Emblem, SAS, SQL, R, Python, machine learning
